A Hermann Tilke circuit in the shape of the Chinese character "shang", China first appeared on the calendar in 2004, and was the scene of Michael Schumacher's 91st and final career victory in 2006. Lewis Hamilton famously ran into the gravel trap while pitting in 2007, triggering events that saw him lose the title by a single point, but he made no such mistake in 2008, winning comfortably from pole.
