The closest-fought Formula 1 World Championship in memory touches down in Hockenheim, Germany this weekend. A three-way tie for the point lead between McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa ensures plenty of excitement for the German venue, which has not hosted an F1 race since 2006. But there will be special motivation for a number of their rivals, as the German Grand Prix is the home race for five drivers.

“I was born 40 minutes away from here and my grandma and uncles and friends still live there in Wiesbaden, so I come here quite a few times and it is nice to be racing here,” said Williams driver Nico Rosberg. “I started my racing career in Germany and have raced here many, many times and won many races here too, so it is a track that I really enjoy and in terms of the car I think it is a track that should be better for us, so I think we can really look forward to a good result here.”

After heavy rains swamped the F1 teams in Britain last
time out, and the German weekend could be similarly afflicted: the weather forecast calls for showers in the Hockenheim area all three days.

Once again, the race coverage will be split between SPEED and FOX Sports, with practice and qualifying airing LIVE on SPEED and the race airing on a same-day delay basis on FOX.
