Marco Andretti's first taste of Formula 1 last month at Jerez may have left father Michael feeling a bit divided, but made granddad Mario nothing but proud of his offspring.

A courtesy of Honda Racing as an award for his strong debut season in the IndyCar Series, Marco's test spanned a single day, in which the 19-year-old logged 67 trouble-free laps to end up two seconds off regular Honda tester Christian Klien.

"I think Marco performed well in the test," the 1978 F1 champion told Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport
newspaper. "The most important thing is that he made no mistakes.

"His physical build is well suited to F1, and in Jerez he got within half a second of [Honda's test driver James] Rossiter. Not bad, is it?", he added. (Rossiter didn't test on the same day as Marco).

Mario also revealed plans to tag along the next time Marco tests in F1, something he is "confident" that will happen in the near future.

"At the next test I'll come along as well - and in fact I would like to try out a modern F1 car myself. Yes, the cockpits are tighter nowadays, but I haven't become too wide," he joked.
