“We are happy to welcome E.J. to the team and to again be running four cars,” he remarked. “He has shown speed in his early years as a driver which we view as very promising, and his personality will lend well to the overall chemistry of the drivers and crew. I’d like to thank Keith (Wiggins) and HVM for their assistance in this project.”

Viso credited Andretti’s approach to its drivers and the recent acquisition of engineer Michael Cannon as key factors behind signing with the team.

“I believe that five years later in the series, I’ve learned what it will take to perform with a championship winner,” he said. “They respect their drivers and it shows. Ryan Hunter-Reay, James Hinchcliffe, Marco Andretti—they work so well together and really enjoy themselves. This is really important to see the type of environment Andretti creates for everyone. All of the details within the team are really good.

“And I’ll be working with Michael Cannon, who was my engineer at HVM in 2008 and 2009, and we speak the same language. I believe we can create some great performances in this team together. Here we are five years later and I feel very honored and will take advantage of all the resources I now have.”

Viso recently hired Geoff Fickling, the team manager behind Team Pelfrey’s Star Mazda championship last year, to handle portions of his personal and business affairs. This shift should allow Viso to apply greater focus to his driving responsibilities.

Between joining Andretti, reuniting with Cannon and moving a number of responsibilities off his plate, Viso is making the necessary adjustments required to move up in the championship standings.

All of the tools to join his new teammates at the sharp end of the grid are at his disposal—now it’s time to deliver.

“I’ve been successful in every category I’ve driven in, and I expect to do the same with Andretti Autosport,” he acknowledged. “I have everything I could ask for so now I need to go get the results I know I can achieve. I’m proud to be supported by Venezuelan sponsors for so long, and I want nothing more than to represent them and myself positively by having a good season.”
