Piquet Sports’ Pastor Maldonado showed once again there’s something about himself and Monaco, taking the pole position for tomorrow’s feature race with a solid 1:21.057 effort. Maldonado, the defending polesitter and race winner – his ’07 triumph at the Principality remains the sole victory of his GP2 career – had also paced this morning’s practice session.

Behind the Venezuelan came the iSport machine of Bruno Senna, himself also especially related to the Principality as his late uncle Ayrton remains the winningest man in Monaco GP history with six victories. The Brazilian trailed Maldonado by 0.178.

Trident’s Mike Conway was also close, just 0.048 further back. FMS’s Adrian Valles and Racing Engineering’s Giorgio Pantano completed the top-five. Championship points leader Romain Grosjean of the ART team will start from the seventh spot.
