Toyota's dismal pace in pre-season testing has sparked criticism even from usually-optimistic Ralf Schumacher, who has admitted the squad will have trouble keeping up with the frontrunners at the Melbourne season opener on March 18.

"We have had a catastrophic preparation for this season," he told Germany's Auto Bild newspaper. "There is a gap to the front that we must now work
hard to close.

"There is no point trying to hide it; in all probability we are going to have a difficult start to the season."

Toyota is the only manufacturer team with testing days remaining ahead of the Albert Park race, and the squad intends to use those in Jerez this week.

"I would be looking forward to the season more if we had fewer problems to solve," Ralf concluded.
