In a weekend when he stood up against his McLaren boss Ron Dennis and double world champion teammate Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton took his fourth 2007 victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix, extending his championship lead to seven points over the Spaniard with six races to go this season.
Hamilton's lights-to-flag win began to be built last night, when the race stewards penalized pole winner Alonso five grid positions for holding up the rookie in the pits (for the same incident, no constructor championship points were awarded to McLaren this weekend).
With BMW's Nick Heidfeld sharing with him the front row, Hamilton made a clear start to retain his lead, while Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen got the jump on Heidfeld for P2 in the first corner. Further down little shuffling happened: Williams' Nico Rosberg held on to P4, ahead of Ralf Schumacher's Toyota, the BMW of Robert Kubica and Mark Webber's Red Bull. Extra careful at the start, Alonso dropped from sixth to eighth.

Alonso on the other hand was able to make swift progress. In near identical moves at the end of the pit straight, he got by Webber on lap two and Kubica on the third lap. Then the Hungaroring's tight confinements made their first victim on lap five, when newcomer Sakon Yamamoto crashed his Spyker out.
