Toro Rosso announced late Friday that Jaime Alguersuari is staying with the team for 2010.

The official news comes after much speculation about the future of the teenage Spaniard, who made his Grand Prix debut following Sebastien Bourdais' mid-season ousting last year.

"Considering that he made his debut only halfway through 2009 with no prior testing, he did a good job, making steady progress throughout the second half of the year, with a mature approach considering he is still only 19," said team boss Franz Tost. This season, he will again face a steep learning curve, as all the circuits in the first part of the season will be new to him. Jaime’s appointment also confirms our team’s commitment to bringing on graduates of the Red Bull Young Driver Program.”

Toro Rosso had already said Sebastien Buemi would be with the Faenza based team this year.

The speculation about Alguersuari’s future began when his name was left off the official FIA entry list late last year. Several drivers’ names had been associated with the seat since then including Nick Heidfeld and it was reported that Burno Senna, who has signed to make his Grand Prix debut with Campos, might switch to the team if the new Spanish outfit fails to make it to the Bahrain season opener.

But last week Red Bull’s motor sport consultant Dr. Helmut Marko denied those reports,/a>.

"It will be Alguersuari," he said. "It's just some contractual details that have to be solved, but generally it's Alguersuari."
