Sebastian Vettel pronounced himself satisfied after finishing FP2 in Montreal in fourth place, some 0.272s off pacesetter Lewis Hamilton.

He was also second behind Hamilton in the morning session. Canada is the only race on the schedule that Vettel and RBR have not yet won, and he is keen to make amends.

“Obviously it was a bit tricky with the weather, we didn’t know when the rain was coming,” said the German. We were thinking to put out supersoft tires on in the first practice already, being afraid a bit of the rain in the afternoon, which didn’t come. But you never know in advance.

“All in all we had a good day, decent laps. Nevertheless even with a little bit of a different approach on terms of when we put fresh tires, we can be fairly happy. It looks to be very close, so we’ll see what we can do tomorrow.

“It’s nice, it’s a great track. A lot of start and stop, a lot of braking and then chicanes, and quick changes of direction. But it’s good fun, it’s part of this track, a characteristic to have a lot of bumps and kerbs, so you have to be pretty rough.”

Vettel said that there appeared to be little different between the two tire compounds.

“Not as much as in Monaco, probably. I think it’s the same for everyone. We didn’t really see one car one team that seemed to make a massive step. Certainly for us in the morning and if you look at other people in the afternoon it was a step, but fairly small, as in it’s a couple of tenths, but we’re not talking seconds.”
