Romain Grosjean admitted he was disappointed to be only fifth in Monaco qualifying after believing that he had a serious chance of landing pole.

The Lotus driver will actually start fourth after Michael Schumacher’s penalty, as for the fifth time in six races he outpaced Kimi Raikkonen.

“I thought we could be a little bit better,” said Grosjean. “Unfortunately the last run in Q3 was not as good as I wanted. I don’t know why, sector 2 was a little bit of a problem.

“For sure it’s strange to say that you’re a bit disappointed first time in Monaco to be P5 on the grid, but in front of your fans and everybody, you want to be up there. I thought we could fight for pole. Anyway tomorrow is 78 laps, the car is pretty good on high fuel and with tires as well, so we can have a good race.”

Regarding his chances of winning, he added: “I believe we can have a good result. It depends how the race is going, and so on, and see where we are after the pit stops and stuff like that.”
