Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen posted the fastest time in the second day of Formula 1 testing activities at the Paul Ricard circuit in Southern France, where teams are preparing for next week’s Monaco Grand Prix.

All squads were in action on the same layout used yesterday, when McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton topped the charts. Raikkonen edged the Briton’s time, clocking a quickest run of 1:05.381, just 0.07sec ahead of Heikki Kovalainen, who took over driving duties for the silver team. BMW’s Robert Kubica was again third, with Red Bull (David Coulthard) and Honda (Jenson Button) completed the top-five.

Sebastien Bourdais logged the sixth-best time with Scuderia Toro Rosso’s new STR3, which will make its racing debut at the Principality. Testing continues tomorrow on a different layout of the dedicated test circuit, set
to emulate Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, hosts of the upcoming Canadian GP.
