The future of HRT remains unclear, with only a last-minute rescue by a new owner likely to see the team carry on into 2013.

Current owners Thesan Capital would prefer to cut its losses and close the operation rather than carry on. The company has given notice to all the employees.

Although there has been some interest from would-be buyers, it seems that no serious offer has emerged. The team has few real assets, and work on the new car stopped some time ago.

“I don’t know what’s next,” said driver Pedro de la Rosa after Sunday’s Brazilian GP, in which both HRTs finished. “But these next two weeks, I think, are very critical to the future of our team.

“However, we’ve had a great race, a great championship. I can say we have completed one of the nicest or most interesting races I’ve ever done in my career. It’s a great end of the season.

“I’m very, very pleased for my team’s work. I want to say, ‘thank you,’ to all of them for a great effort in very difficult circumstances, and from now on we just keep fighting like we’ve always done.”

De la Rosa, who has a contract for next season, may have driven in his last F1 race.
