Caterham has denied speculation that it is a potential buyer for the troubled Lola organization.

Sources had suggested that the team is considering relocating to Lola’s Huntingdon facility rather than the former Arrows/Super Aguri base in Leafield, as had been announced some time ago.

However, when questioned, a Caterham F1 spokesman told SPEED.com: “Our proposed move to Leafield is proceeding as planned and as previously announced. We wouldn't comment on any discussions with Lola or any other commercial organization.”

One of the main reasons to go from rural Norfolk to Leafield is to give the F1 team access to a bigger pool of possible employees from around to motor sport’s UK heartland in Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire, where Red Bull, Mercedes, Williams, Lotus, Force India and Marussia are all located. The intention is to leave the sister Caterham Composites division in Norfolk.

There is some logic to a Lola deal, however. Interestingly, Huntingdon is about halfway between the two, so if it happened, team members who had already relocated to Norfolk could still commute and might not have to move across the country.

In addition, there would be the potential for the race team and the composite company to be on the same site, which has obvious benefits.
