With the apparent demise of HRT, Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan is, perhaps, removed from the Formula One world. The struggling team was missing from the FIA official 2013 entry list, and the offices have been moth-balled in Spain. That’s harsh news for a driver who was planning on driving for HRT in 2013.

“The plan for me was to stay with HRT for 2013, as it was looking good all along. As a team, we have been making progress, and the design for the 2013 car is reasonably competitive. I was quite sure of everything being in place, and thus there was no Plan B.”

So what is Plan B? Karthikeyan drove in NASCAR for a stint, and says that he may have to look again at other racing series to find an opportunity to drive:

”I may be forced to look beyond F1 now, so looks like it is going to be a very busy off-season," he said.

Busy indeed.

He joins the ranks of Bruno Senna, Pedro de la Rosa and Kamui Kobayashi as drivers looking for rides, and if you believe rumors, Vitaly Petrov or Heikki Kovalainen could be close behind.

Some of Karthikeyan’s appeal could be large backing from Tata Corporation which is also the communications partner of F1. Just how much money the India-based company would spend on Karthikeyan’s behalf could tip the scales.
