Jenson Button says there is more to come from McLaren’s double diffuser, which was raced for the first time at Hockenheim.

The team struggled with it in practice at Silverstone before abandoning it, and Button admits that it is not easy for the car or driver to adapt to it.

“It is a little bit different, and there are few things that take a bit more time than others,” said Button in Hungary. “It’s not just driving style, it’s also the way you set the car up. You do set the car up differently, so it takes a little bit of time. And I think that was some of our issue at Silverstone. But at Hockenheim it worked correctly, but there’s still more to come out of it. Here, we’ll have even more out of it.”

In Germany, Button outqualified teammate Lewis Hamilton for the first time since China, but he’s not getting too carried away.

“I’m sure I’m not going to outqualify Lewis at every race this year – and he’s not going to outqualify me at every race this year. I’m happy with what I did in Hockenheim, and I feel very comfortable with the car now," Button said. "I felt that we worked very well over the whole weekend with developing the car and getting the car in the best shape for qualifying.

“That’s something that we need to do here again. But it did fill me with confidence, qualifying, and for me the whole of qualifying, just building up to it, was good. And I hope for the same thing here.”
