Ahead of his NASCAR test in the coming days, Jarno Trulli was trackside this weekend for the Sprint Cup event in Phoenix.

"Nice to see Jarno Trulli here!" the Italian's former Formula One rival Juan Pablo Montoya wrote on Twitter.

It is expected that 35-year-old Trulli, a veteran of 219 Grands Prix, will move on from Toyota's F1 withdrawal by switching to Lotus next year.

Before that he will take part in a NASCAR test for Michael Waltrip Racing at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida.

Trulli was a guest of NASCAR’s Joe Gibbs Racing at the Sprint Cup weekend in Michigan in 2008. It was his attendence at that race that according to Trulli sparked his interest in stock cars. He said he asked Toyota’s US counterparts if a test "just for fun" would be possible.

"Before the Belgian Grand Prix they offered me the chance to do so later in the year," said Trulli in a statement he issued last month. "But I want to stress this is purely an opportunity to experience another category of motor sport for personal enjoyment. My commitment is 100 per cent to Formula One."
