F1: Massa Confident After Spa Friday

Felipe Massa says he’s happy with Ferrari’s progress after the first day’s action at Spa. The Italian team dominated last year’s race but things didn’t seem so clear cut after a practice day spoiled by rain and a red flag.

“I’m just working hard and concentrating to have everything right for tomorrow, and especially for Sunday,’ said Massa. “It’s a very challenging track, with so many challenging corners. Unfortunately Eau Rouge is not a corner anymore, because it’s easy flat from the first lap, so that’s a shame. But the other corners are very challenging for the driver. You have a lot of pleasure to drive on a track like that.

“I feel confident, I feel we can do a good job here. The car looks consistent and quick. So we need to keep working hard to make everything for Sunday. The goal is always pole. We’ll work on that, and we’ll see how it’s going to be.”

Meanwhile,
Kimi Raikkonen’s weekend got off to a bad start when he crashed in the afternoon session. He got back to the pits without his rear wing, but damage to the floor meant he missed the end of the session. However, he’s not too worried.

“I lost some time, but it wasn’t 100% dry,” said the Finn. “There were a few laps, but people weren’t able to improve their times.”

Raikkonen says he has no concerns about the team’s pit stop traffic light system after his error in Valencia.

“I left too early and unfortunately it was not so good. It’s been working fine. Like I said, I left too early, so it was my mistake. It was not a big thing. Sometimes these things happen.”
