Mark Webber was satisfied with the first outing of the Red Bull Tuesday, despite losing the first three hours of the morning.

Red Bull flew rear wing parts into Spain Tuesday morning – cutting it fine as is the team’s style – but due to fog at the local airport, the plane was diverted to the city of Seville. By the time the missing parts reached the track and were fitted to the car, it was almost noon.

Webber still managed to run over 50 laps, finishing the day in fourth place.

“It was good,” said Webber. “We did some decent running. I felt quite comfortable in the car quite quickly. It’s very, very, very early days, but so far, so good.

“We had some late parts just due to the fog. The fog was quite tough this morning at the airport, so we cut it a little bit fine, and we got beaten by the fog. In the end we made a reasonable recovery, still 55 laps. The car ran very well this afternoon, so we’ll have a better day tomorrow.

“It was never part of the plan to give up three hours. We’re an incredibly well-organized team, very, very well-prepared, and that’s something that’s very unusual for us. But sometimes we can’t control Mother Nature. We risked a bit tight on the schedule and we paid a little bit of a price, but that can happen sometimes.”

Webber said he was happy with the feeling of the car, although it was different without the blown diffuser.

“Obviously, there are a lot of changes," said the Australian. "Aerodynamically the concept is a bit different because of the regulations, but we’re satisfied so far. It goes – braking, steering, it’s very nice.

“It’s different for sure, in terms of the way the blown diffuser was working in the last year or so. It was quite powerful on the car’s balance. We knew that was coming, obviously, with the change of regulation, and we’re working hard to address the new aerodynamic package.

“I think we had a pretty good idea of where the car would roll out, and we’re pretty happy with the initial running of the car. Early days, but we’re quite satisfied with today’s running.”
