Jos Verstappen has denied an attempted murder charge following the incident in Holland earlier this week, the Dutch ANP agency is reporting.
Verstappen allegedly struck his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend with his car in the Dutch town of Roermond, close to the German border, on Tuesday evening. He later turned himself into the police.
Verstappen has been remanded in custody for 14 days. His lawyer, Marcel Heuvelmans, says that he denies the charges.
Verstappen has been in trouble with the Dutch authorities in the past.
In an unfortunate twist of fate JJ Lehto – who shared the second Benetton with Verstappen in 1994 – was jailed recently in relation to the death of a friend in a speedboat accident.
