Felipe Massa has made it clear that he is no great fan of Monaco, claiming he prefers “real” circuits. The Brazilian was third for Ferrari last year, but does not have a particularly impressive record in the principality.

“I had some good results here but it’s not one of my favorite circuits,” he said. “I enjoy a bit more real circuits like Spa, Turkey; even the new circuits, Bahrain, China, I enjoy much more than street circuits, it’s not very much fun to drive.

“If looks like sometimes if you push a little bit you are slow. So you need to drive very technical, you need to be very careful, because if you brake a little bit later sometimes you gain in the braking, but you lose in the exit, so it’s very different driving here than the other circuits.”

Massa says he’s not looking forward to driving without traction control, especially if as expected it rains.

“Here it was already quite difficult with traction control. Without traction control, it will be a lottery. Whoever is driving very carefully will maybe have a chance to win the race. The problem is that you start maybe learning all the corners in the wet, but then you start to go a few laps more to try and learn the limit, and sometimes if you pass the limit a little bit, you’re already in the wall. It was like that with traction control, and without it, it’s going to be very tough.”
