Nick Heidfeld has been penalized three places after an impeding incident in qualifying in China.

However the German was unhappy with both Coulthard and Rubens Barrichello after they allegedly ruined his out lap early in the session, although ultimately it didn’t make any difference.

Heidfeld was seventh in qualifying, gained a spot from Mark Webber’s engine penalty, and now goes back to ninth.

“It was something that for me was very disappointing,” Heidfeld told SPEEDtv.com. “People went very slow on the out lap, it was a knock-on effect as it sometimes unfortunately has. Time was running down and I had a quick car behind me, so I just speeded up. What Rubens did was even worse than what David did. He saw me coming very late, and suddenly moved in front of me. I had maybe 80kmh (50mph) more than him, so I just kept pushing to prepare my lap. David was going very slowly as well. He saw me coming and he speeded up, and he ruined both of our laps.

“It didn’t affect me, but you don’t know in advance, do you? I could have gone quicker.”
