McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton showed that the neck pains that troubled him during last weekend’s European Grand Prix are past him by finishing on top of the timesheets on the final day of testing at the Monza circuit in Italy.
The championship leader posted a best time of 1:22.967 after 97 laps, good enough to beat Kimi Raikkonen’s Ferrari by 0.4sec. Still. The Brit’s time was 0.3sec slower than that set by BMW’s Nick Heidfeld on Thursday
Force India’s Giancarlo Fisichella and Williams’ Kazuki Nakajima came next, while Red Bull’s David Coulthard completed the top-five.
“This three-day test has produced positive results for us,” RBR’s chief test
engineer Ian Morgan said. “We can be particularly satisfied that the car ran one
hundred percent reliably on track throughout and we completed
hundred kilometers, the most of any team here, with today being particularly
busy.”
The 2008 F1 season resumes next week with the Belgian GP.
