Lewis Hamilton is fast this weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Friday's first practice showed it. Free Practice Two confirmed it.

After showing the way in P1 Friday morning, Hamilton's McLaren moved to the top of the leaderboard again in P2 as the McLaren driver continued to look poised to snare his first win of 2012 in Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.

Following Hamilton (1:15:259) in the second 90-minute practice round was Ferrari duo Fernando Alonso (1:15:313) and Felipe Massa (1:15:410).

Reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel and Force India man Paul Di Resta completed the top five, followed by Kamui Kobayashi, Michael Schumacher, Nico Hulkenberg, Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg.

Button, Hamilton's McLaren teammate and defending race winner of the Canadian GP, made just 14 laps and spent most of practice in the garage as his team tuned on his car.

As with P1, Friday's second practice was stopped by a red flag — this one for the Williams of Bruno Senna, who smacked the barriers at Turn 14 just past the session's midway point.

Alonso, who spun earlier in P2 but continued with no harm done, is the World Championship leader after six of 20 races.

Reigning World Champion Vettel and Red Bull teammate Mark Webber are tied for second, trailing the Spaniard by a mere three points.

Hamilton (-13) and Rosberg (-17) complete the top five.

Incredibly, each event of 2012 has been won by a different driver, with Button (Australia), Alonso (Malaysia), Rosberg (China), Vettel (Bahrain), Pastor Maldonado (Spain) and Webber (Monaco) all scoring, respectively.

The action in Canada resumes with Free Practice Three, which SPEED.com will stream live Saturday at 10 a.m. ET.
