All Formula 1 teams are gathered at the Paul Ricard circuit in Southern France this week, as the squads prepare for the Monaco Grand Prix on May 25.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton set the pace in the opening day of activity, posting a best run of 1:05.600 after covering 84 laps at Ricard’s 2D SC configuration, which measures 2.25mi.

Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen was second, nearly 0.5sec behind, while BMW’s Robert Kubica completed the top-three. Red Bull’s Mark Webber and Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Vettel rounded out the top-five aboard the new STR3, on a day marked by new aerodynamic appendix being introduced by some of the teams.

Williams’ Nico Rosberg appeared with a “sharkfin” engine cover in his FW30, while Honda tester Alex Wurz sampled the RA108 with even larger “Dumbo ears” on the nose.
