F1: Hamilton Admits McLaren Slowest

Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton on Saturday admitted that his McLaren deserved to qualify on the last row of the grid for the British Grand Prix.

Media reports said the Briton's career-worst qualifying result in front of legions of his fans was at least partly due to the red flag triggered by his friend Adrian Sutil's big crash.

But Hamilton, 24, insists the car is simply "dead slow".

"We have to bear in mind pretty much every car around is quicker than ours in the high speed corners. It's a fact, even the Toro Rosso and Force India are faster than us in turn one," he told reporters.

Until the Sutil incident, Hamilton had already set two flying lap times in Q1, and while his teammate
Heikki Kovalainen went on to qualify 13th, Hamilton confessed that 19th is a representative result.

"I was pushing on that final lap -- but it was nothing special," he said.

"The car is all over the place and there is nothing I can do with my driving style to stop it other than drive slow," added Hamilton.

As for the rest of the season, he doubts the MP4-24 can be significantly improved because the fundamentals of the design are "undo-able".
