Schu Would Be Winning With Red Bull Car - Ecclestone: The Mercedes car is the reason for Michael Schumacher's performance struggle in 2010. That is the belief of F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone, when assessing the first half of the seven time World Champion's return season to F1 this year. "He has found a much more difficult situation than he would have counted on," the 79-year-old said in an interview with Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport. "It's not a question of him, but of the car. If Michael was sitting in the Red Bull, he would immediately be as he was before." Schumacher's teammate Nico Rosberg told the German-language TV Movie: "The car is currently not fast enough. There are some things in the development that have not quite gone to plan."

Cosworth Staying In 2011 As Chairman Williams Steps Down: Williams will continue to be powered by Cosworth engines in 2011, the British team said in the Silverstone paddock on Thursday. It had been rumored that the team was eyeing a switch to Renault, but Cosworth's Mark Gallagher responded by insisting a three-year contract is in place. Due to the duration of the current contract, and the fact the situation will be unchanged in 2011, it is believed the Grove based outfit will not issue a media statement to confirm the identity of its ongoing engine supplier for 2011. Also announced by Williams on Thursday is that chief executive Adam Parr is now taking over as chairman, even though Sir Frank Williams remains the official team principal. But Parr's new role hands him full responsibility of the day-to-day running of the team, with long-time boss and majority shareholder Williams, 68, still having the final say on decisions.

Texas F1 Officials To Attend British GP: Leading figures of the 2012 United States GP in Texas will be trackside at Silverstone this weekend. According to the local Austin newspaper Statesman, promoter Tavo Hellmund as well as Texas comptroller Susan Combs will be at the British GP. Combs' role in the race bid is in overseeing the state's $25 million in annual funding, but a spokesman for her office said she is paying for the personal trip herself. The news is amid reports that a second American F1 project is in the works, and scepticism that Austin can get its purpose-built circuit built in time. Richard Suttle, the Austin project's lawyer, revealed to the Chronicle newspaper that the official announcement by Bernie Ecclestone in May was a surprise. "We had no idea it was coming, and it started a firestorm," said Suttle. "Ever since, it's been the old term, 'drinking water from the fire hose.'"

Still No F-Duct For Renault's 2010 Car: Another Grand Prix will pass this weekend without Renault having an F-duct on its 2010 car. It was rumored two weeks ago that the Enstone based team was on the verge of debuting the downforce-stalling concept, and team boss Eric Boullier confirmed it will appear "very soon." Renault fell behind with the F-duct - pioneered by McLaren and now also run by Ferrari, Sauber, Red Bull, Williams, Force India and Mercedes - when it initially decided earlier this year that it would not waste resources on the innovation. France's Auto Hebdo reveals that the R30s are not fitted with F-ducts in the Silverstone garages. Boullier confirmed the news, adding that the concept is still being worked on and should make its debut appearance "very soon."

Button's Mother Caught Up In Hotel Fire: Jenson Button has confirmed that his mother Simone was one of the patrons evacuated from a local Silverstone hotel earlier this week. We reported on Tuesday that the Premier Inn hotel, within a stone's throw of the Northamptonshire track, burned down. One woman was hospitalized, amid concurrent rumors that reigning World Champion Button's mother was staying in the hotel at the time ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix. But the McLaren driver said on Thursday: "She has lost a few possessions but other than that she is fine." Affected patrons were initially transported to a nearby hotel, but Button has now rented a motor home for his mother to stay in at Silverstone this weekend.

Vettel Appoints Own Press Spokeswoman: He may still have no manager, but Sebastian Vettel now has his own press spokeswoman. Previously employed by the team Red Bull Racing, Britta Roeske will now handle only the 23-year-old German's press affairs. The move mirrors the approach of countryman Michael Schumacher, whose long-time press spokeswoman Sabine Kehm is now his general manager.

Di Resta Has 'Fingers Crossed' For Force India Debut: Paul di Resta has his "fingers crossed" for a Formula One race debut with Force India in 2011. He is currently the team's reserve driver, and at Silverstone will make another track appearance during Friday morning practice. Mercedes-backed di Resta, who also races with the German marque in the DTM series, is managed by Lewis Hamilton's father Anthony. The 24-year-old is quoted by the PA news agency as remaining focused on his 2010 duties. "It's taking one step at a time because it is a big task this year, and hopefully I'm impressing the team enough that I can build a future," said di Resta, whose cousin is the successful Indycar driver Dario Franchitti. Although Force India's current race drivers are Adrian Sutil and Tonio Liuzzi, di Resta admitted he would like a seat next season. "It's certainly a great team to be part of. I'd love to be driving one of their cars next year, so fingers crossed."
