Bulgaria Scraps Plans For Grand Prix: Bulgarian organizers have scrapped plans to host a Formula One race. The organizing body Bulgarian Motorcycling Federation (BMF) had held meetings with Bernie Ecclestone and reportedly even received a race contract for 2011-2015. But BMF chief Bogdan Nikolov has announced that the plans, as well as the federation, have been suspended. The Bulgarian sports minister had announced this week that only "land for construction" would be provided. "At the end of what was possibly our most successful season ever, we have to suspend all activities and shut down the federation," Nikolov is quoted as saying by the Sofia Echo newspaper. "This federation cannot be sustained by the personal loans that I myself provide. I have to pay off debts and loans from banks, I even sold some of my own personal property to keep operations going. "He added that there is "no sign" that the government will change its approach to funding in the future.

Promoter Eyes Grand Prix For Prague: A Czech racing team owner is in talks with DTM about hosting a round of the German touring car series near the capital city Prague. Autoweek reports that Toni Charouz, who has been involved with Le Mans, A1 and DTM teams, also wants to bring formula one to the Czech Republic. "Formula One is the ambition," he said. "If we put on a good show with the DTM, then maybe we can have a Grand Prix, but we've got nothing on paper yet." Regular F1 track designer Hermann Tilke has already produced a rough draft of a $166m part-permanent facility, which would be
located very close to the city center. Charouz, targeting the first races for 2012, said the planning process is "90 percent complete".

Belgian GP Posts 5m Euros Loss For 2009: The 2009 Belgian Grand Prix, held at iconic Spa-Francorchamps, suffered a loss of more than 5 million euros. As a local court ruling relating to noise threatens the circuit's operating license, race organizers were already considering annually alternating the grand prix with the Nurburgring at the end of its contract in 2012. The Belga news agency reports this week that the 2009 event, attended on race day by just over 50,000 spectators and won by Kimi Raikkonen, cost Spa 5.134m euros. "(Race organizer Etienne) Davignon should come to us with concrete proposals to achieve financial balance so that (the GP) is viable," said Jean-Claude Marcourt, the economics minister of the regional government of Wallonia.

After F1 exit, Toyota staying in NASCAR: Toyota is staying in the premier American racing category NASCAR, despite deciding to pull out of Formula One. Toyota Racing Development president Lee White said the Japanese carmaker's F1 retreat "has no bearing on its NASCAR program". "It (the decision) should have no effect whatsoever on our NASCAR program, our NASCAR plans and our NASCAR future. We remain completely committed to NASCAR and NASCAR is completely committed to us," he added. Toyota's Japanese rival Honda pulled out of F1 at the end of 2008, but remains the exclusive engine supplier to the premier American open wheel category IndyCar.
