The second Toyota team with driver Timo Glock won’t be starting the Japanese Grand Prix – despite the team claiming that a decision will be taken on Sunday morning.

FIA sources have confirmed that the German will not be on the grid having had stitches in a leg wound after his huge crash in qualifying. He ran off the road on the turn that leads past the Suzuka pits and struck the tire wall head on with a heavy impact.

Toyota asked the FIA Stewards about the possibility of third driver Kamui Kobayashi driving after he subbed in Friday’s rain when Timo had a fever.

However the rules state that any driver who starts a GP must take part in Saturday morning practice so the team was given a very definite ‘no.’

Toyota had hoped to get the other teams to agree to dispensation but the matter didn’t get that far.
