The FIA has remained silent over the sex scandal involving its president, Max Mosley, who was exposed in a Nazi-themed orgy by British tabloid News of the World.

Mosley, 67, was caught on video taking part in what the tabloid described as a “sadomasochistic orgy” with five prostitutes. The scandal’s proportion was enhanced by the fact that Mosley’s father, Oswald Mosley, was the leading fascist leader in Britain in the years before World War II, and an open Adolf Hitler sympathizer. In the video posted on the News of the World website, Mosley role-plays, among other things, the procedure Jews went through before being admitted to Nazi concentration camps during WWII.

"This is a matter between Mr. Mosley and the paper in question," an FIA spokesman told autosport.com. "We understand that Mr. Mosley's lawyers are now in contact with that newspaper and the FIA has no comment."

F1's commercial boss Bernie Ecclestone told London’s The Times newspaper that the issue should have no influence in Mosley’s role as FIA president – several Jewish rights organizations in the UK are calling for his resignation.

"I've known him an awful long time," Ecclestone said. "If somebody had told me this without the evidence I would have found it difficult to believe. Assuming it's all true, what people do privately is up to them.

"I don't honestly believe [it] affects the sport in any way. Knowing Max it might be all a bit of a joke. You know, it's one of those things where he's sort of [joking], rather than anything against Jewish people."
