A little more than halfway through an already-wacky year in Formula One, leave it to Ferrari to add the latest wrinkle to the topsy-turvy 2010 campaign.

After languishing for most of the season behind the Red Bull and McLaren teams, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa emerged from the shadows to administer an all-out beatdown on the competition Sunday at Hockenheim.

Alonso, having spent most of the afternoon in his teammate's tire tracks, overtook Brazilian Massa on lap 49 of 67 and cruised to his second victory of the season but first since the 2010 opener at Bahrain.

The Spaniard's 23rd career Grand Prix triumph snapped a nine-race stretch of races won by Red Bull or McLaren drivers.

Massa held on for the runner-up spot, just ahead of native German Sebastian Vettel.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button completed the top five and remained 1-2 in the drivers standings, with Hamilton 14 points ahead of his defending World Champion teammate.

Massa, driving exactly one year after being seriously injured in a qualifying crash in Hungary, overtook Alonso and polesitter Vettel in Turn 1 on the first lap and pulled away to build a comfortable lead.

Alonso, slowly but surely, however, began closing the gap on his teammate before executing his winning move with little resistance from Massa.

Brazilian Massa finished 4.1 seconds behind Alonso and one second ahead of Vettel, who rallied in the closing laps in front of his home crowd.

The top three finished more than 20 seconds ahead of Hamilton, who was flanked by Button nearly three seconds behind.

Mark Webber, fresh off a dominant victory at Silverstone two weeks ago, finished a quiet sixth - more than 46 seconds behind the winner.

Webber is now tied with teammate Vettel for third in the standings, 21 points behind Hamilton.

Two-time World Champion Alonso is fifth, 34 points back of the leader.

Positions seven through 10 at Hockenheim belonged to Robert Kubica, Nico Rosberg, Michael Schumacher and Vitaly Petrov.

Nineteen of the 24 cars were still on track at the race's conclusion.

Formula One returns to action next weekend with the Hungarian Grand Prix from the Hungaroring.
