Ferrari race engineering chief Chris Dyer says the team has a lot of work to do after “a difficult day” in the Belgian GP.

While Felipe Massa picked up some useful points with fourth, Fernando Alonso failed to score after his first lap assault from Rubens Barrichello, a failed tire gamble, and then a crash right at the end.

“A great race for Felipe. He really kept out of trouble, made all the right calls during the race, and managed to finish in a reasonable position,” said Dyer. “With the performance of the car this weekend, we couldn’t have expected too much more.

“On the other side of the garage, an extremely bad day for Fernando. Obviously it started in the first couple of laps, getting hit from behind, and that really ruined the race, and put him at the back. At that stage he tried the intermediate tire.

“Bit of a gamble, but we had nothing to lose. Then he got back on to the dry tires, came back through the field, but then was caught out on a wet track at the end, and didn’t finish the race.

“A difficult day for the championship, and we’ve got quite a lot of work to do for the last six races.”

The team will be doing a straightline test at Vairano this week to prepare its aero package for Monza. The team is likely to try wing configurations with and without an F-Duct.
