Lotus
With its new exhaust now on both cars and working well Lotus appeared to have good pace throughout practice, but after Kimi Raikkonen made a change to the car for qualifying he struggled for grip and ended up seventh. Romain Grosjean meanwhile missed the cut for Q3 by two-tenths and started 11th. Raikkonen stayed seventh at the start and spent the entire race staring at Massa’s gearbox. He briefly got ahead after Massa came out of the pits, but the Brazilian dragged back past with DRS. Grosjean started on the prime tire and his later stop saw him climb as high as fifth as he held off Button. After his stop he dropped back to ninth, which was still a respectable outcome.

Force India
Force India’s run of getting at least one car into the top 10 ended at its home race as Nico Hulkenberg narrowly missed out on making Q3 in 12th place. Meanwhile team mate Paul Di Resta had a frustrating qualifying session as he struggled to find a balance, the Scot eventually ending up in 16th place. Hulkenberg had a good first lap, getting past Maldonado, Rosberg and Grosjean to claim ninth. He moved up another spot when Perez made an early stop and held eighth to the flag. Di Resta was always going to have a tougher time and he finished out of the points in 12th.

Sauber
Sergio Perez did not feel well on Thursday which gave Sauber a good excuse to hand test driver Esteban Gutierrez some mileage in FP1. Perez bounced back to have one of his strongest qualifying sessions in a while to take eighth. Kamui Kobayashi was handicapped by incorrect brake balance settings in Q2 and was stuck in 17th. Perez ran seventh in the early stages but a blistered front left tire led to an early pit stop. He then suffered a rear puncture after being clipped by Ricciardo. He pitted but damage led to a retirement a few laps later. Kobayashi finished 14th after surviving contact with Maldonado without damage to his front wing.

Toro Rosso
After showing good form in recent races Daniel Ricciardo took a solid 15th. Jean-Eric Vergne made major set-up changes for Saturday and starting afresh it took him time to find a balance. He just missed making Q2 in 18th place. Vergne’s race was over almost before it started as he hit Schumacher on the first corner and had to pit for a new nose. He managed to regain ground from the backmarkers on his way to fifth. Ricciardo meanwhile had contact with Perez later in the race but survived it to take 13th, having spent much of the race in traffic.

Williams
Williams showed good pace on Saturday and Pastor Maldonado topped Q1 and made Q3 easily. However on his hot lap he locked up, which left him in ninth. Bruno Senna had also looked like a top 10 candidate but a mistake in Q3 saw him earn 13th. Maldonado dropped a couple of places at the start and ended up fighting with his team mate and Romain Grosjean. His race was spoiled when he moved across in front of Kobayashi and picked up a puncture from the Sauber’s front wing. He went off the track and after a pit stop finished 16th. Senna meanwhile worked his way into 10th to claim the final point after.
