250SX: Wilson Walks Away With East Opener
Title favorite Dean Wilson showed that he's returned at full strength with a convincing victory in the Eastern Regional 250SX Class opener.

It certainly didn't take Dean Wilson long to shake off the rust and bounce back following an extended injury-related layoff that also saw a promising premier class opportunity evaporate for the perennial undercard title contender.
Resigned to the proud Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki effort after his 450 ride with Jeff Ward's team collapsed, Wilson looks primed to make the most of the opportunity for one more shot at a 250SX Class title.
After winning his heat earlier in the evening, Wilson made a strong launch into second to kick off the Eastern Regional season-opening main event. He then made short work of a fast-starting Kyle Peters to grasp control of the lead before the opening lap was completed.
From there, the hungry and fit Wilson dominated the affair, ripping open a multi-second advantage and ultimately cruising to a one-sided victory.
Wilson said, "I had to push hard to get a good start. I'm just so excited to be up here -- I've been waiting for this day for ten months. And to finally get it, it makes me so happy. It's just a perfect way to start our season."
Blake Wharton narrowly missed qualifying for the main event in his heat, missing out on 9th by literally inches after crashing into a rival while racing up the ramp to the checkered flag. However, the Rockstar Energy runner powered through the LCQ and got a brilliant start in the Main. While he couldn't maintain Wilson's torrid pace to push for the win, he held on for an impressive runner-up result.
"There's been a lot of progress," Wharton said. "We work hard and I've got a great team behind me. Today was a little rough in a few areas, but I've got to give it up to Rockstar Energy Racing."
GEICO Honda's Wil Hahn made it three makes on the podium, while holeshot winner Peters held on to finish fourth.
"It's definitely gratifying (to finish on the podium)," Hahn remarked. "We all pride ourselves in working very hard in the offseason for this. It's great to be back with the team that stuck with me through the two toughest years of my career."
